In the afternoon the focus is on speaking though real-life situations thereby improving fluency fast!
Review hour: In Englishour we believe that learning English is partly a memory game so here the learners have an opportunity to practise last week’s language in a very intense hour. It brings the structures and vocabulary back to the front of the brain where the learner can access it. If this is your first week you will be completing a placement test at this time.
Phrasal verbs: Phrasal verbs can instill fear into learners but in Englishour we are experts at making them easy to use and understand. In this hour you will develop an understanding of how phrasal verbs work and the logic behind them. Through this understanding you can build a working vocabulary.
Language hour: This is the core of the course. We are unique in Englishour as we prepare and write our materials. Each level has a particular grammar syllabus which is followed week by week in language hour. We see language hour as being your English foundation, around which you can build.
Writing: In our experience writing is sadly lacking in a lot of other schools and yet is central to how we live today. Emails, texts, letters both formal and informal are written by us every day, and professionally at least, often in English. How you write reflects in part who you are. In our writing class you will grow.
Situational English: This is what makes our afternoon syllabus really different! Every week we teach you commonly-used words and phrases which are used in particular situations such as saying sorry to somebody or talking about problems for example. Learners use and improve through spoken interaction in our guided speaking class.
Idiom hour: Idioms are expressions often used by native speakers of English and we want you to use them too! They are fun and easy to use, but best of all you can say a lot with very few words. Learners report to us that one of the most enjoyable moments of language learning is when they hear and understand an idiom.
Test: It’s important to test regularly to see development and to recognize any problems which may be in early development. Our test hour on Fridays gives learners the opportunity to reflect on everything they have done during the week and to see their own progress.
Film/life hour: This is yet another reason why Englishour is different to any other school around! It’s simple. If you would like any more information about this, or indeed anything else you see here please contact us through the contact button above.
