Review hour: Review hour is a summary of all the vocabulary and grammar learnt in the previous week. It is a super-intensive start to the week. Students starting their first week in Englishour may be tested during this period.
Phrasal verbs: An area which can make many students nervous but which we love teaching! We really believe that phrasal verbs are easy. They are essential to understand for spoken English and we will put you on the path of understanding. We will clearly explain how particles work, the grammar of phrasal verbs and how you can use phrasal verbs comfortably in your every day speech.
Language hour: This is the core class in Englishour. In Language hour we follow a carefully prescribed syllabus which incorporates all the grammar, functions, linking devices and discourse markers which any learner needs at their particular level. Students must complete all language hours in any given week.
Writing hour: Learners in Englishour receive regular writing tasks which are analysed in writing hour. Letters, emails, reports, articles, lists, even text messaging both formal and informal, are written and improved on. We will listen to your needs and from there develop a personalized program of writing just for you. Quite simply, we will teach you how to write with accuracy and ease. Every student who completes a course in Englishour will leave with a writing portfolio which can be used in their European language passport.
Idiom hour: Idioms are a huge part of the spoken side of English. They are fun and interesting and when used appropriately can make a learner sound both natural and fluent. Idioms are generally positioned very much on the informal/ spoken side of English. Using idioms promotes both fluency and understanding and that is why, only in Englishour, do we devote a special time to them in our timetable!
Test: Every student in Englishour completes a weekly test ensuring that they have achieved an understanding of all the language covered in that week of our specially-written syllabus. The test allows both us and yourself to track your progress on a week by week basis, ensuring that you are moving along the road to fluency!
Film/life hour: This is another innovation which separates us from the rest! Every Friday we invite an expert in to talk to you about some aspect of life. The talk is practical and in English therefore enabling you to learn a new skill as well as the English language. On some weeks we will have a film hour where students make a short movie which will be posted on our youtube page which is written and produced by themselves. This is task-based learning at it’s most real!
